This year my main focus was to get outside in the fresh air and explore nature. I spent a lot of time cycling through the ravine trails of Toronto and admiring all of the little things growing there. I was able to get in a lot of plein air painting and have also been writing a bit of poetry to go along with my pieces. I am excited to share both in my upcoming book. Stay tuned!

My first memory involving art was at the tender age of eight. I had created a little collage for my grandad who at the time was visiting Canada from Scotland. He loved the little piece of art I had created and spent hours lost in the shapes and the colours. I think about this sometimes as the years have passed that a little piece of my art could bring joy and meaning to another.
Recently after suffering a great personal loss I was taken with the thought of leaving the corporate world to get back to my art.
With our natural world in peril, I wanted to bring focus to it through my paintings. An ode to nature so to speak. After many years sitting at a desk I felt an overwhelming desire to have my boots on the ground and get outside in the fresh air. Most of my paintings, though not all, are done en plein air, on location outside.

Feeling the wind in my hair this year has really inspired me to get outside and paint in the field. While not all of my pieces are done en plein air, most of them are.

To stay savvy with my design and media skills I spent some time this year learning how to edit video. The above video is my first little project. The piece was done at the Toronto Brickworks and features a bit of my outside field work. If you’d like to see more of my video adventures don’t forget to like and subscribe!
